We
have several new dogs that have come in.
Two are grey Siberian Husky sisters, so if you
are looking for a Husky, or know someone who is,
let take a look. |

We
have a lost dog reported in the
Evergreen/Conifer area. She is a 5 1/2
year old black tri-color miniature Australian
Shepherd who answers to the name of Tilly.
She weighs 22 pounds, and is spayed. She
got out of her yard late in the evening of the
7th of January, 2012, without her collar.
She is not microchipped, so identification will
have to be by provided pictures - see below.
If
anyone has a lead on this dog, her owners are
frantic, and would like their family member
returned to them, you can contact Lynne or Bill
at 720-320-8489, and we will get you in touch
with her family.

Lynne is doing
really well. She passed her 90 day
post-surgical checkup, and has been allowed to
drive again, as well as an increase to light
duty from limited duty. Our most likely date to resume
events will be the weekend of the 18-19 of
February 2012. Purina and Petco have their
Spring "Think Adoption First" weekend at that
time. We are looking for a Petco who wants
a Pro Plan Advisor in attendance, and will be
updating the calendar as we schedule more events.
We are still taking in
dogs, and we are still adopting dogs, but we are
doing everything by appointment only until the
doctors release Lynne back to a more normal
activity level. If you are interested in
adopting a dog, please call 720-320-8489 to
setup an appointment. We apologize to
those of you who have put in applications
recently. We are getting to them as soon
as we can, but with Lynne's post surgery
schedule for physical therapy and follow up
visits, we are struggling a bit to process
things in as timely a manner as we did
previously. |

Please
HELP!
We are in dire need of
fosters who are close to the Denver Metropolitan
Area, who can transport dogs to and from our
events, and who can accept dogs, directly from
shelters. Fosters who are 100+ miles from
Denver are really only useful as temporary hold
points for dogs pulled from shelters local to
their area, or as long term fosters for harder
to adopt dogs. All of our current
adoption venues are within the Metro area, and
it becomes hard to get dogs to events when
foster homes are a distance away. With the
price of gasoline climbing toward $4.00 a
gallon, weekly trips to and from distant foster
homes to pickup dogs for events is neither
realistic or affordable.
If you can help,
please call 720-320-8489, or email

We are trying to
get the funds together to start building
Colorado Aussie Rescue a forever home where we
can setup permanent kennel spaces, and be able
to rescue more dogs than what we are currently
capable of rescuing. It occurred to us
that with over 70,000 hits on the web site in 2
1/2 years, that
we would have the money to do the dream in just
a couple of years if
everyone who visits just gave $5.00 each time
they visit. So, we are starting the Give
$5 fundraiser, and we are asking that everyone
give $5 every time they visit the site. Of
course, giving more would help us reach our goal
faster.
What we are
trying to do is to purchase a 10 to 20 acre plot
of land southeast of Denver, build barns,
kennels, and fences, a bunkhouse for volunteers,
and a main building for the offices, etc.
This would give us a place to work with the dogs
24/7, give them a place where they can have
room to roam, and a place where we could keep a
small herd of sheep or goats so that they can
get herding experience.

For
all you stamp collectors out there, or even
those who just need to send something by snail
mail, the United States Postal Service now has a
program that returns money to shelters from the
purchase of special
Adopt a Shelter Pet
stamps and collectables. |

This
blog is
a "must read" for anyone who has occasion to be in a place
where small children and dogs are interacting. The
articles are written by a trainer who specializes in child-dog
interaction, and having this knowledge could literally be
the difference between life and death for a dog. Given
the current asinine legal position that dogs find themselves
in with small children, any bite, even if it is collateral
during play, can put a dog in jeopardy.

For those of you who do not know
who CARE is, they are the tireless transporters of food and
animals that works the I-70 corridor every week bringing
dogs and cats from the high kill shelters out east in
Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and other locations to safety in
the rescues in Colorado, and distributing needed food and
services to small rural shelters who often do not have the
necessary resources to care for the number of dogs and cats
that they take in. They could always use a couple of
extra dollars for gas, food, and van rental. Please go
to their
website, and GIVE GENEROUSLY. Dogs and cats of all
breeds will thank you. This is their lifeline.
Linda, Lisa, and their group of volunteers spend an
unimaginable amount of time on the road. In the past
three years, they have logged over 350,000 miles in the
interest of rescue, and they have shepherded over 6,000
shelter dogs and cats to safety. |
